Is there a necessity for working with the company that has made the I-140 filing for a minimum period (6 months?) before which one can port his I-140 to another company?

Attorney

The I-140 does not get ported to a new company. The I-140 employer petition is company specific. The exception to this is in a case where there is a sufficient connection between the companies OR the I-485 has been filed / pending for at least 180 days. Otherwise, the priority date generally can be retained from the approved I-140 in a new I-140 filing. But, it is ONLY the priority date that is kept, not the rest of the case. (15.Jun.2015)
