Murthy Major Contributor to AIC, Which Will Honor Influential Immigrants
28 Mar 2017On April 6, 2017, the American Immigration Council (AIC) will host its 22nd annual Immigrant Achievement Awards in Washington D.C. The AIC is a nonprofit organization that promotes laws, policies, and attitudes honoring our rich history as a nation of immigrants. The awards will honor three immigrants who have made a profound impact on their communities through talent, hard work, and perseverance.
The honorees include Khizr Khan, the father of a decorated war hero who was killed in Iraq while serving our country in 2004. Khan gave an emotional speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention and urged Americans to reject the ban on Muslims entering the United States proposed by then presidential candidate Donald Trump. Khan has continued to be a vocal opponent of the Trump Administration’s executive orders efforts to hamper travel by immigrants from Muslim-majority countries. Doctors Vimal and Krishan Goyle will also be receiving Immigrant Achievement Awards for their many years of work serving low income and immigrant communities. The couple are originally from Punjab, India and immigrated to the U.S. in 1971. Vimal Goyle is an obstetrician and gynecologist who supports several philanthropic organizations, including the American Red Cross. Krishan Goyle is a cardiologist and founder of the Kansas-based Goyle Clinic, which caters to lower income patients throughout the region.
The Murthy Law Firm and the MurthyNAYAK Foundation are co-sponsors of the event and have been the biggest contributors to the AIC since its inception more than two decades ago.
