Meet the Murthy Law Firm: Chris Drinan
27 Sep 2018The dedicated team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff at the Murthy Law Firm is integral to our success. Day after day, they help to fulfill the dreams of our clients through their integrity, diligence, and commitment to excellence. To introduce our readers to the dozens of individuals who come together to make our clients and our firm successful, we periodically present one of our exceptional team members. This entry in our continuing “Meet the Murthy Law Firm” series shines the spotlight on attorney Chris Drinan.
Growing up in a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, Chris enjoyed typical childhood past times like collecting coins and baseball cards and rooting for his favorite local sports teams. But as he grew older, he turned his gaze skyward. “In high school, I did an internship with the Harvard-Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. … I thought it was fascinating, and I started college as an astronomy major. Most astronomers these days are astrophysicists, which is pretty math intensive. I realized pretty quickly that I have no inherent talent for math, so that was that.”
Chris eventually moved on to law school, and immersed himself in the world of complex criminal cases. “These cases always have the most interesting fact patterns, and there’s always so much at stake: you’re arguing about whether someone goes to jail, or even gets executed.” After passing the bar, Chris began working as a litigator for a small general practice firm outside of Boston. However, Chris soon realized he didn’t enjoy the day-to-day experience of trial work, and began working on immigration cases on the side. “Pretty soon, I was doing immigration law full time. I did this for the next ten years in Boston. It was real hands-on work: I was in Immigration Court or at INS interviews almost every day.”
After a brief relocation to Las Vegas, the timing seemed perfect when Chris received a call from the Murthy Law Firm inviting him to fly to Baltimore for an interview. “I joined the firm in 2010. I work in the Special Projects Department, so I have the opportunity to work on some of the most interesting and complex cases that we see.” While Chris enjoys the fast-paced atmosphere of the firm, he also appreciates the support he receives from his colleagues. “Law firms can be shark tanks, but this is not one, and I feel that all the attorneys and staff here are my friends. I’m happy to come to work here every day.”
