Meet the Murthy Law Firm: T.J. Sachse

The dedicated team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff at the Murthy Law Firm is integral to our success. Day after day, they help to fulfill the dreams of our readers through their integrity, diligence, and commitment to excellence. To introduce our readers to the dozens of individuals who come together to make our clients and our firm successful, we periodically present one of our exceptional team members. This entry in our continuing Meet the Murthy Law Firm series shines the spotlight on attorney Timothy “T.J.” Sachse.

T.J. traces his interest in immigration law back to his love for travel, which was sparked at an early age. Each summer, T.J.’s father would take him and his brother on road trips to different parts of North America, such as Juarez, Mexico; Vancouver, British Columbia; New England, and southern Ontario. By the time he completed his undergraduate degree in government and politics at the University of Maryland, College Park, T.J. had officially been bitten by the travel bug. “In college, I took international relations classes whenever I could. I had taken a few international trips by then – to Scotland, England, and France – and I loved experiencing different cultures, different ways of life, different ways of looking at the world.”

When he began his studies at the University of Baltimore School of Law, he immediately sought out opportunities to study abroad. In the summer after his first year, he went to Israel and studied at the University of Haifa. Then, near the end of law school, T.J. had the opportunity to study in Belgium at the University of Ghent. “All my classes were in English, but there were hardly any Americans or other native speakers there. The students were from all over Europe.”

By the time T.J. completed law school in 2009, he knew he wanted to practice some kind of international law. Providentially, the Murthy Law Firm had just started an Honors Law Clerk Program, to which he applied and was quickly accepted. T.J. thrived in the program, moving through the various legal departments within the firm, and making an excellent impression on his supervising attorneys along the way. After completing the program, T.J. was hired as a full-fledged attorney.

T.J. greatly appreciates the camaraderie and family atmosphere offered at the Murthy Law Firm. “The way you feel about your job depends a lot on leadership. It comes from the top down. If the boss is nice and respectful, it makes your job much better, regardless of the stress involved…. [Sheela Murthy] does seem to care about you personally, not just about your work product!”
