NewsFlash! Progress Seen in Visa Technical Problems

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) reports that progress has been made toward restoring the visa issuance systems. DOS updates state that 22 consular posts have been reconnected to the biometric data processing system, and work continues to reconnect more consular posts.

The most recent update is given in the DOS notice, which states that “[t]hough some progress has been made, biometric data processing has not been fully restored.” No specific timeframe has been given as to when the visa systems will return to being fully operational. Further, as the systems come back online, the consulates will still have to “…clear the backlog of pending visa cases.”

Backlogs are likely to create continued visa delays, even after the systems are restored to a fully operational status. DOS did not provide a list of the consulates which have been reconnected.
