When an EB3-to-EB2 porting is requested with a pending I-485, how do we verify that the I-485 is linked to the new I-140?

Answer

Sometimes, the connection is obvious, such as when an RFE is issued, and it is of the type that is issued only for cases that are close to current. But, if there is any uncertainty about this, it is possible just to call the USCIS customer service 800 number and ask about the I-485. (18.Apr.2016)
