What are the self-evaluation reporting requirements for F-1 students on 24-month STEM OPT if the student changes employers during employment?

Answer

The 24-month STEM OPT rule that went into effect on May 10, 2016, contains several reporting requirements for both the employer and the student employee. With regard to the self-evaluation requirement, the student must complete self-evaluation reports using the attachments to Form I-983 signed by both the student and the employer. The STEM OPT rule requires that these reports be submitted to the DSO at the end of the first year of OPT and at the end of the 24-month training period. SEVP has confirmed that, if the student changes employers, he or she must complete a self-evaluation within 10 days following the conclusion of each employment opportunity, in addition to the mandatory self-evaluation within 10 days of the conclusion of the 12-month period from the start date of the STEM OPT.
