USCIS Webpage on Buy American, Hire American Executive Order

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has posted a webpage with information related to the directives in President Trump’s April 18, 2017 “Buy American, Hire American” executive order (EO). The page summarizes the relevant portions of the EO, and briefly lays out the steps the USCIS is taking to comply with the President’s directives.

Hire American Webpage Features

The webpage explains that the purpose of the EO is “… to create higher wages and employment rates for U.S. workers and … to advance policies to help ensure H1B visas are awarded to the most-skilled or highest-paid beneficiaries.” It encourages U.S. employers to enroll in E-Verify, which is a government program that allows employers to verify online whether an individual is legally authorized to work in the United States. The page also lists the dedicated eMail addresses for reporting suspected fraud and abuse within the H1B and H2B programs, and strives to increase transparency regarding the employment of foreign nationals by providing reports on the H1B program and programs that provide employment authorization documents (EADs) to foreign workers.

Conclusion

By now, it is public knowledge that the current administration is pushing for ways to decrease the number of immigrants in the United States. This webpage, like the EO it is based on, serves to highlight some of the ways the USCIS is working to enact the President’s priorities.
