I got a DUI a few weeks ago and then received an eMail informing me that my visa had been revoked. Do I have to leave the U.S.?

Answer

This is known as a “prudential revocation” of a visa. The U.S. Department of State routinely does this in situations where a foreign national with a valid visa is found to have been arrested for a DUI. A prudential revocation only impacts the visa “stamp,” not the person’s status. As long as the foreign national is in the U.S., there normally is no need to have a valid visa. (26.Mar.2025)
