New Exchange Rate for Visa Application Fees in India

Effective December 22, 2014, the exchange rate between the Indian rupee and the U.S. dollar, for purposes of paying visa applications fees in India, has changed. The new exchange rate is 64 rupees per U.S. dollar, up from the previous designated rate of 62 rupees to the dollar.

Payments Prior to Change Accepted for One Year

Receipts issued to visa applicants are valid for one year. Thus, those who remitted visa payments prior to December 22nd are not required to pay the additional rupees.

Visa Rate Information Available on Line

The visa application fees and going exchange rate for applications filed at U.S. consulates in India are available on the USA TravelDocs WebSite. The exchange rate is important because, although the fees are listed in U.S. dollars, they must be paid in local currency. These visa application fees are separate from the filing fees paid to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for case types that require a petition.

Exchange Rate in Place Until August 2015

The new exchange rate is in place until at least August 1, 2015. Applicants are reminded to always check for updated details related to the visa process, including fee matters, to avoid problems or delays.
