How can I tell if I am eligible for a drop box appointment?

Answer

The criteria may vary slightly, depending on what country where the U.S. consular post is located; and the specific details normally are listed on the particular consular post’s website.

Still, the easiest way to determine eligibility usually is done automatically when trying to schedule an appointment. During the scheduling process, the website normally asks a series of simple questions to screen the applicant and determine eligibility. While this system is not perfect – on rare occasions, we have heard of applicants being told they are eligible for a dropbox appointment, only to later be told that they are not eligible. By and large, the screening system seems to work quite well. (22.Oct.2024)
