The USCIS announcement about the resumption of interviews for Employment-Based Adjustment Applications, starting in October 2017, is not actually a new policy but resumption of an old policy. It used to be that it was standard for all I-485 applications to be scheduled for interview (employment, family, etc). The primary purpose of the interview is to verify the details of the I-485 employment-based application, review original documents and compare them against the copies submitted, confirm the bona fide nature of the sponsored position and confirm that the individual is not inadmissible.
