Your form I-485 cannot be changed after the application has been approved. If you are married before the I-485 is approved, your spouse potentially can file her I-485 as your derivative beneficiary, even after your case has been approved. If you get married even 1 day after your I-485 is approved, then your spouse generally would not be eligible to file an I-485 as your derivative beneficiary and you likely would need to pursue a family-based case for her.
