Online I-539 Filings Issued Biometrics Solely via USCIS Online Account

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released guidance to clarify that if a foreign national files an application to extend / change nonimmigrant status (form I-539) online, and biometrics are required, the USCIS will transmit the biometrics notice solely via the applicant’s USCIS online account. No paper biometrics notice will be physically mailed to the applicant.

Use USCIS Online Account for Electronically Filed I-539

For electronically filed form I-539 applications, the applicant can use the USCIS online account to view and print biometrics appointment notices, track case status, respond to any request for evidence, and update contact information. The USCIS recommends regularly checking the online account for important communications from the USCIS and to sign up for account notifications.

Conclusion

Applicants should attend biometrics appointments timely or contact the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283 in advance if there is any need to reschedule. The applicant must show good cause in order to reschedule. If neither is done, the USCIS may consider the I-539 application abandoned and deny the extension or change of nonimmigrant status.
